Robert V. Neher Award - A Global Academic Competition

Introduction

The Robert V Neher Award is an academic competition designed to seek out and reward the very best in innovative packaging and technical applications in context with aluminium foil and closures.

Named after the inventor of the aluminium foil rolling process, the Robert V. Neher Award welcomes submissions from students and academia from packaging, food and technical universities worldwide.

Entry criteria

Any scientific work or research, including a bachelor, master or doctoral thesis, addressing technical, scientific or sustainable aspects of aluminium foil processing, application or use can be entered.

While aluminium foil does not have to be the main focus of the scientific work, there should be considerable reference to it.

Judging

The Jury consists of five outstanding individuals with academic and industrial backgrounds. It is headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Hirsch (senior scientist at Hydro Aluminium GmbH – R&D centre). The other judges are listed below. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Award and presentation ceremony

A cheque for EUR 10,000 will be presented to a representative of the award-winning work at Robert V. Neher Award Ceremony, to be held at Aluminium exhibition in Düsseldorf October 2018.

Documentation to be submitted

All documents listed below must be submitted at the time of entering and must be in English and in PDF format.

  1. Statement of Academic Integrity – all applicants are required to download, print, sign, scan and upload the Statement of Academic Integrity at the time of online submission. Download Statement of Academic Integrity
  2. Abstract (max 500 words)
  3. Executive Summary (max 1,200 words)
  4. Scientific work – paper or doctoral dissertation

The competition will close for entries at the end of May 2018. The announcement of the winner will be made in October 2018 at the Award ceremony.
